An infant girl has been discovered dead with injuries, from a house in Vilimale’.
Doctors in Vilimale’ Health Post said that the girl was already dead when she was brought to the post, around 2:20 p.m. this afternoon.
The girl had bruises on several parts of her body, with blood visible around her nose.
An aunt of the deceased girl told Sun that the girl’s parents were heard arguing heatedly last night. She said that others came to know of the girl’s death when her mother had cried out this afternoon that "my child is dead."
Another person from the house told Sun that the child's body was stiff by the time she was taken to the health post, causing them to suspect that she had died some time ago.
The infant girl was less than a month old and had not been named. Sources from Vilimale’ told Sun that the girls parents are known to have record of drug abuse.
The parents are now under police custody. Ministry of Family, Gender and Human Rights has also commenced investigations into the case.
A crowd has also gathered outside Vilingili Health Post, condemning and protesting the negligence of the girl’s parents.
Police are making arrangements to transport the girl’s body to Male’, along with her parents.
