High Court to deliver verdict tomorrow, on JP

The High Court has scheduled a session for tomorrow afternoon, to deliver the verdict on the case filed by Jumhooree Party seeking an order upon the Elections Commission to provide the voters’ list of the first round of the presidential election.

The official notification requesting to be present in court at 2:20 p.m. tomorrow has been sent to the lawyers involved in the case. This has been confirmed by MDP lawyer Hassan Latheef.

The High Court website, however, does not state that this trial has been scheduled.

The High Court concluded the three-hour hearing on this case yesterday.

JP said in court that they can only substantiate their allegations regarding the credibility of the electoral register if they receive a copy of the list of people who voted.

The Elections Commission said that the list contains people’s personal information, which would be compromised if the list is revealed.

Both parties however agreed, when the High Court Judge’s bench suggested that JP officials be allowed to visit the Elections Commission office to access the list of voters.
