No ballot papers or result sheets among documents disposed of by Elections Commission: Police

The police have said that there were no ballot papers or result sheets of the first round of the presidential election among the documents disposed of by the Elections Commission today.

The police said this after examining several garbage bags kept outside the Elections Commission premises, following a complaint filed by Jumhooree Party (JP) claiming that the commission was trying to dispose of documents related to the presidential election.

The materials were examined by a Police Forensic Team in the presence of Elections Commission officials.

The police said that there were no documents that can affect the results of the first round of the presidential election held on 7 September 2013 among the examined materials.

The police also did not find any documents that can alter the information of people who had registered to vote in the second round of the presidential election.

The police also noted that copies of identity cards, documents containing the commission’s stamp, and several other similar documents were not shredded before they were discarded.

The police said that the materials included documents used in trainings given to commission officials and lists containing presidential candidate representatives.

JP has accused the Elections commission of trying to discard documents related to the election, and said that they will request the Supreme court to allow security forces to monitor all documents related to the presidential election until the court rules on the case filed by JP regarding the election.
