Prepared to join forces with PPM, says Adhaalath Party Leader Imran

President of Adhaalath Party, Sheikh Imran Abdulla has said that the party might have to work with the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) in the second round of the presidential election, in order to make sure that former president Mohamed Nasheed does not return to presidency.

Speaking at a rally held by Jumhooree Party (JP) last night, Imran said that he is prepared to do the necessary to save the country from Nasheed’s cruelty.

“Our party is prepared to join PPM as early as tomorrow, in order to save the country from Nasheed’s cruelty and anti-Islamic ideas,” Imran said.

He criticised the president of the Elections Commission, and said that Adhaalath Party was waiting until the doubts of vote-rigging surrounding the Elections Commission are resolved.

Speaking at the rally, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed said that they are prepared to form a coalition with any party other than Nasheed’s, and that a decision in this regard is being delayed due to allegations of vote-rigging.

Ahead of the first round of the presidential election, Adhaalath Party first entered into a coalition with incumbent President Dr Mohamed Waheed, but changed their minds shortly afterwards and formed a coalition with JP.
