Prosecutor General has warned to take legal action against those who accept and offer bribes for votes, in the lead-up to the presidential polls on Saturday.
In an interview to Sun today, Prosecutor General Ahmed Muizzu said that handing out money and gifts in return for votes will be considered as bribery, and thus, those who offer and accept such bribes will be duly prosecuted.
“It is illegal to offer and accept gifts to vote a certain way. Offering and accepting such gifts will be viewed as acts of bribery. We will take action against those who offer and receive gifts. Because offering and receiving gifts are crimes and will be viewed as giving and receiving bribes,” the Prosecutor General said.
Muizzu said that all cases of election bribery, properly investigated and containing proper evidence, will be reviewed and prosecuted.
