The Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has opened campaign halls in four islands.
The campaign halls in Raa Maduvvari, Raa Inguraidhoo, Noonu Maalhendhoo and Haa Alifu Ihavandhoo were opened yesterday by PPM presidential candidate Abdullah Yameen.
The campaign hall in Maduvvari was opened yesterday morning, Inguraidhoo and Maalhendhoo yesterday afternoon, and Ihavandhoo yesterday evening.
Speaking at the ceremony held to open the campaign hall Maduvvari, Yameen said that he hoped that 70 percent of Maduvvari citizens would vote for PPM.
He said that there is great support for former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom in every island, and that the support for Gayoom has increased after 2008.
Referring to PPM’s Youth Manifesto, Yameen said that the manifesto was created based on the ideas of groups that work for youth development.
Speaking at the ceremony held to open the campaign hall in Inguraidhoo, Yameen said that a PPM government would prioritise the construction of a harbour in Inguraidhoo.
Deputy Leader of Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) Ali Mauroof also spoke at this ceremony.
Mauroof said that the PPM-MDA coalition will not make empty promises, and that the difference between the presidential candidate and running mate of PPM, and the presidential candidates and running mates of other parties were obvious in the recent presidential debates.
He said that a perfect economy can be built in the Maldives only if the people elect Yameen and Dr Jameel in the upcoming presidential election.
During inauguration of the campaign hall in Maalhendhoo, supporters of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) tried to obstruct the ceremony using loudspeakers.
Yameen also visited the islands of Raa Fainu, Noonu Kendhikulhudhoo and Haa Alifu Hoarafushi, as part of his current campaign tour in the northern atolls.
