Thimarafushi Airport to be opened on 2 Sep

The cremony to officially inaugurate the new airport in Thaa Thimarafushi will be held on 2 September.

Minister of Transport Ameen Ibrahim told Sun tonight that preparations in this regard are ongoing.

The airport will be inaugurated by President Dr Mohamed Waheed.

“We were trying to complete everything by yesterday. Most of the work is already done. The remaining work will be handed over to a company within two days or so,” he said.

He said that operation of flights to the airport will commence after ensuring that the airport meets the standards set by the Civil Aviation Authority.

Regional Airports has said that a temporary terminal has been constructed in the airport, and the work related to the fence is also almost complete.
