President departs to Huvadhu Atoll

President Dr Mohamed Waheed has departed to some islands in Huvadhu Atoll on a campaign tour.

Speaking to reporters prior to his departure tonight, independent presidential candidate Dr Waheed said that he will arrive in Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo tonight and travel to Gaafu Alifu Vilingili tomorrow night.

He said that even though this is a campaign trip, he will monitor the progress of the ongoing government projects in the islands, such as the sewerage system project in Thinadhoo and several projects in Kooddoo.

The president said that projects will be implemented in several islands even before the presidential election, but it was not possible to provide details at this stage.

Referring to the issue of Mohamed Fahmy Hassan attending work after being dismissed from the Civil Service Commission, the president said that a decision will be made on this issue very soon. Speaking to reporters last Friday, he also said that a decision will be made on this issue “within the next two or three days”.
