The cabinet has advised President Dr Mohamed Waheed to change the name of Thinadhoo Regional Hospital to Dr Samad Memorial Hospital.
The members of the cabinet made this recommendation after discussing ways to create a long lasting tribute to the late Foreign Minister Dr Abdul Samad Abdulla. The cabinet noted Dr Samad’s services to the development of the health sector of the Maldives.
A cabinet meeting was also held yesterday, where it was decided to hold a special remembrance meeting to pay tribute to the distinguished services of Dr Samad and to establish a special scholarship in memory of Dr Samad.
Dr Samad passed away in Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore while undergoing treatment for heart and kidney problems. He has been laid to rest in a cemetery Singapore.
