The Department of Immigration and Emigration has released the passports of three people, whose passports were withheld under a court warrant in relation to the murder of former Ungoofaaru MP, religious scholar Dr Afrasheem Ali.
It has been confirmed to Sun Online that the passports of Abdullah Javid, who is the son-in-law of Chairperson of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Reeko Moosa Manik, Shaheen Mohamed and Solah Abdullah (Spy) were released on Wednesday last week.
Controller of Immigration Mohamed Ali confirmed to Sun that their passports were withheld from 23 May to 21 August.
Hussain Humaam of H. Lobby said during the murder trial that Spy was with Azlif Raoof, when Azlif Raoof told Humaam that Afrasheem “needs to be removed” and promised to pay him MVR 4 million if he agreed to carry out the murder.
The police also earlier arrested Azlif Raoof, who was then an officer of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
The State has charged Hussain Humaam and Ali Shaan of H. Hicoast with murder, following the murder of Dr Afrasheem Ali.
In court, Hussain Humaam first confessed to the murder, and then denied it, saying that he confessed after being intimidated by the police.
