Statistics have revealed that 527 vehicles have been reported stolen this year, the leading complaint received by the police in 2013.
Police website shows that a total 1,316 cases of stolen vehicles were reported in 2011, a total 1,888 such cases in 2012, and 527 cases so far this year.
“Most of these include reports of stolen motorcycles. These numbers clearly show that the problem of motorcycle theft has to be addressed.
“Regardless of how quickly you have to go somewhere, always lock the wheel and keyhole. This is very important. You can also make sure that the cycle is locked and the keyhole is properly closed. When we look at the details of stolen motorcycles cases, we notice that most of these happen because of negligence,” Police said.
They said that the drivers can also install disk locks or alarm systems on the cycles. These are things that can be do done at a low cost, to save expensive property, police said.
Police said that they have been working alongside the local community to reduce vehicle theft, but said that innovative techniques employed by thieves are proving to be a challenge.
“In truth, trouble has been increasing from one day to the next. Individuals have to be more responsible, as the owners of their property and citizens of this community, to try and reduce these incidents,” the police website read.
