Police investigate death threats against TVM presenter Liza

Police have started investigating death threats against the Television Maldives’ (TVM) Deputy Editor Aishath Liza.

The threats are believed to be related to a one-on-one talk question and answer show named Siyaasath (Policy), presented by Liza and aired by the state broadcaster during past two weeks.

A police media official told Sun that they are currently investigating a report by TVM’s parent company Maldives Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) that there are “plans to threaten Liza’s life.”

“MBC has filed a report with the Maldives Police Service saying that there are plans [being made] to threaten Liza’s life. Police are now investigating the matter,” the media official said.

The young and well-received TVM presenter has recently been the butt of antagonizing comments and harsh criticism on social media networks.

The police media official added that no one has yet been arrested with regard to the report.
