Police have summoned Aishath Leesha, wife of Thoddoo MP Ali Waheed, regarding investigation of a corruption case allegedly involving the MP.
A police media official confirmed to Sun that Ali Waheed’s wife was summoned and questioned at the police station around 9:00 p.m. last night. The official did not provide any further information.
Police summoned Ali Waheed’s father Mohamed Waheed in July this year, regarding the same corruption case. However, he chose to remain silent during questioning.
Police also travelled to Alif Alif Thoddoo and questioned Zuhra Abdulla, the MPs mother, a few days after questioning the MP's father. Zuhra also chose to remain silent.
Sun is aware that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and police are investigating a case where Ali Waheed’s mother Zuhra purchased a house named M. Enzian from the capital Male’ in October 2011, which belonged to Ibrahim Shareef of M. Oceanic Villa. The land was purchased for an amount of MVR 7.9 million.
Ali Waheed’s mother had previously admitted to Sun that she had purchased land in Male’, that it was not purchased from money that she owned herself, but rather with money earned by MP Ali Waheed’s father. Zuhra denied that the land was purchase with money given by Ali Waheed.
Despite Zuhra’s denial, some documents revealed earlier showed that the house was paid for by a company maned Tap Construction.
Apart from the land purchased by Ali Waheed’s mother, Ali Waheed and his wife have also purchased two pieces of land from Hulhumale’, won through a bidding process. The price of a plot in Hulhumale’ is known to be MVR 4.6 million each. The land purchased by Ali Waheed’s wife however has been retracted due to failure to make payments.
