Late Dr. Samad laid to rest in Singapore

Former Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs, late Dr. Abdul Samad Abdulla has been laid to rest this afternoon.

The funeral took place at 11:00 a.m. Male’ time at the Chua Chu Kang Cemetery in Singapore.

The funeral was attended by Vice President Mohamed Waheed Deen, widow of the late Dr. Abdul Samad, Ms Ameena Ali, his children, family members, and the Maldivian Ambassador to Singapore Mohamed Khaleel. A large number of Maldivians residing in Singapore also attended the funeral.

President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has declared the national flag to be flown at half-mast for three days starting Sunday.

Dr. Abdul Samad Abdulla, 67, died at 1:05 a.m. (Male’ time) Sunday morning, while being treated for ailing kidney and heart issues in Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital.

President's Office has announced that funeral Prayers in absentia for the deceased Foreign Minister is to be held in all the inhabited islands across the country, including Masjid-al-Sultan Muhammad Thakurufaanu Al Auzam (Islamc Centre) in Male’, after today’s Asr Prayer today.
