Problems can be solved faster with the new border control system: Minister

Minister of Defence Mohamed Nazim has said that with the establishment of the new border control system provided by the US government at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport, problems related to border control can be solved at a faster speed.

Speaking to Sun, Nazim said that there are areas to be improved in relation to the system, which came into use on Tuesday night.

“Complaints were received regarding delays on the first day after we started using the system. But that problem has been solved to a great extent now. But delays can still be experienced if several flights land at the same time,” he said.

He said that following the implementation of the new border control system, work is ongoing to increase the number of counters at the airport.

“There are some vacant counters even now. We are working on increasing staff, to provide services from those counters as well. The problems will be solved in three or four days,” he said.

He said that the employees were trained before the new system came into use, and on-the-job training is being provided now as well.
