President of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has said that out of the four presidential candidates, the candidate most suitable for the task of improving the economy is PPM’s presidential candidate Abdullah Yameen.
Gayoom made this remark while speaking at a PPM rally in Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo.
“Considering the state of our country, which talents, which area of education, which areas of experience does the country need in its future leader? The Maldives is currently in a bad economic situation. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that our economy is completely damaged. Business activity has gone down, people no longer have money, and they don’t even have the opportunity to work. Incomes have gone down. In this situation, we need someone who can do this, someone who can improve the economy, someone who can bring about wealth for the Maldivian people, someone who can increase income and ensure economic progress. Considering this, out of the four candidates, the person most suitable for this work is our presidential candidate Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom,” said Gayoom.
He went on to say that the UK won World War 2 because they elected a person capable of the task as their leader, but for the term that followed the war, they elected someone who could improve their economy. He asked the Maldivian people to follow this example, and vote for Yameen in the presidential election this year.
Gayoom said that in addition to ensuring economic progress, Yameen has also proven that he is capable of bringing about improvement in social areas as well. He said that Yameen is the most capable person for the post of President of Maldives.
He said that the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) entering into a coalition with PPM has been a great encouragement for PPM.
“The PPM-MDA coalition is the coalition that will win the election on 7 September,” he said.
