Parliament informs President of Dr. Latheef

Speaker of the Parliament Abdulla Shahid has informed President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik of the appointment of Dr. Mohamed Latheef, M. Kinbi as the President of the Civil Service Commission (CSC).

A press statement published by the parliament today revealed that, in a letter sent to President Waheed today, Speaker Abdulla Shahid stated that the appointment was made through a unanimous vote by Members of the Parliament.

The statement continued to state that additionally, the Speaker sent a seperate letter to the President of the Judicial Service Commission, Adam Mohamed Abdulla, noting that Dr. Mohamed Latheef would be representing the Civil Service Commission in the Judicial Service Commission as per Article 158 (g) of the Constitution.

The Speaker also sent letters to the Civil Service Commission and to Dr. Mohamed Latheef, informing of the appointment.

Dr. Mohamed Latheef’s nomination as CSC president was approved unanimously with 60 votes and four abstentions in yesterday’s parliament session.

Dr. Latheef's appointment follows controversy regarding the removal the Commission's former president Mohamed Fahumy Hassan amidst allegation of sexual misconduct. The Supreme Court has put a hold on the taking of oath of the newly appointed CSC member Reenee Abdul Sattar, who was appointed to replace Mohamed Fahumy Hassan.
