State raises charges against motorcycle rider that hit and killed Abdulla Gasim

State has raised the charge of disobeying a police order against Ahmed Naadhee Saleem, 21, of Nooruhsabah, Gaafu Alif Gemanafushi, who was riding the motorcycle that hit and killed Abdullah Gasim, 43 of Raiyfusge, S. Hithadhoo, while trying to flee after mugging a mobile phone.

Reading the charges to the court today, the state prosecutor said that Ahmed Naadhee, accompanied by another man, had passed Salsa Royal on a motor cycle at a fast speed, travelling from west to east on Orchid Magu (road) between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 pm on the morning of 17th of August last year, and that he had refused to obey after police officers near Justice Building had repeatedly ordered him to stop.

The state prosecutor also noted that the motorcycle driven by Ahmed Nadhee had hit Abdulla Gasim who was sitting on a motor cycle parked near the sidewalk near Justice Building, and that Gasim had died soon after from injuries from the accident, while being treated in the hospital.

When asked to answer for his charges, Naadhee admitted that the accident did take place.

Ahmed Naadhee Saleem has already recieved two years and six months in prison by the Criminal Court, after he confessed to have driven a stolen motorcycle, for disobeying police orders when asked to stop on a different instance, in addition to mugging a mobile phone.
