Civil Court rejects Judge Ahmed Shareef

Civil Court has rejected for a second time the case of Judge Ahmed Shareef Ali, the Chief Judge of High Court contesting his suspension by the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) for an indefinite period of time.

An official from the Civil Court stated that the hearing was cancelled after Ahmed Shareef’s lawyer, Husnu Al Suood failed to attend court without credible reason today. The court previously rejected the case citing the same grounds.

JSC decided to indefinitely suspend the Chief Judge of High Court Ahmed Shareef Ali on the 29th of May this year, stating that they had received several complaints by seven judges of High Court regarding the management of High Court, in May 2012. The decision to suspend the chief judge was made upon a three member majority of the seven members who sat at the meeting, where 2 members had voted against the suspension, and two abstentions. The Commission is composed of 10 members.
