The Elections Commission has said that the number of people re-registered for the upcoming presidential election is 64,400.
Re-registration was required by voters who intend to vote from ballot stations other than the stations designated for their permanent addresses.
Vice President of the Elections Commission Ahmed Fayaz Hassan said at a press conference held yesterday evening that all the re-registration forms have now been checked by the commission.
“The deadline for re-registration was 7 August. After that, we gave time for people to correct the forms that were rejected due to various problems. That period has also now passed. After screening and checking all the forms, we can say that the number of people who re-registered is 64,400,” he said.
He said that the list of the people who re-registered will be published on the commission’s website today, and a period of three days will be given to file complaints.
Fayaz said that for previous elections, no time was given to file complaints after the period for re-registration passed, and that it was not possible for the commission to give more than three days to file complaints.
The Elections Commission has said that the final list of the people who re-registered will be announced on 20 August.
