Over 1000 foreigners screened in hunt for Hulhumale

Police have said that they have screened more than 1000 foreigners in the search for the man suspected or raping a 19 year old girl in Hulhumale’ last Saturday.

More than 1100 foreigners were searched by nightfall yesterday, they said

Police revealed that 438 foreign workers have been searched in the industrial island of Thilafushi, 334 people searched in 23 establishments in Hulhumale’, and another 400 foreigners have been searched from various places in the capital Male’.

However, the police said that they have not found the suspect, but assured that the hunt will continue without losing momentum.

Police earlier said that the suspect is known to have travelled from Hulhumale’ to Male’ around 10:00 a.m. by ferry, on the 3rd of August, soon after committing the rape.

They also said that the man is thought to be about 5 feet and 7 inches tall, with short hair, and was known to be wearing a gray shirt and gray trousers on the morning of the incident. They also said that the man would have had a badly injured left forefinger during his ferry ride back to Male’.

Police said that the rape was reported around 10:30 a.m. on the morning of the 3rd of August, and that they predict the incident to have occurred around 9:30 a.m that morning.

The 19 year old girl was raped after a foreigner had ambushed the girl while she was on her way to work that morning. She was raped in a thicket of bushes on the side of the western side of Reethigas Magu in Hulhumale’, police said.
