Thief assaults police officers during arrest

A person who stole from a house and tried to escape the scene has assaulted the police officers who tried to arrest him.

The incident took place at 16:15 today, when the thief tried to escape with a number of items wrapped in a cloth, which he had stolen from a house on Dhonadharaadha Hingun.

The police said that a person has been arrested for theft, and for obstructing police duties and assaulting police officers during the arrest.

An eyewitness said that the police tried to protect the thief as he was attacked by a group of people in the area, and that there were clashes between the police and the people who tried to attack the thief.
