State appeals cases of three people acquitted on Ali Shifan's murder

The State has appealed the murder case of Ali Shifan of M. Fairy Corner in High Court after the Criminal Court acquitted all six men indicted for the murder.

However, an official from the Prosecutor General’s Office said that they have appealed cases involving three of the six men. The appeal was submitted last week, the official said.

The three men who’s cases have been appealed are; Mohamed Shaifan of Male’ Dhaftharu 2193, Mohamed Mishan Abdul Haadhee of M. Silvernet and Abdullah Thilmeez of M. Dhinmana.

He said that there is not enough room to appeal the cases involving the remaining three men; Mohamed Asif of Maafahi in Lhaviyani Kurendhoo, Ali Nabeeh of M. Nalahiya Manzil and Razzan Abdul Rahman of Kaanimaage in Baa Thulhaadhoo.

Acquitting the sex men in March this year, the Criminal Court had stated that the statements provided by the prosecution’s witnesses had major discrepancies and that the court will not convict someone based on statements that produce doubt to the innocence of the accused.

Ali Shifan died on the 1st of April 2012 around 4:45 p.m. after being stabbed by a group of people on motorcycles while he was standing on the street near West Park.
