MDP holds rally to mark approval of Nasheed

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has last night held a rally to mark the Elections Commission’s approval of former Mohamed Nasheed’s candidacy to compete in the upcoming presidential elections.

MDP supporters with flags and banners started their walk from Usfasgandu area around 9:30 p.m. last night, led by presidential candidate Mohamed Nasheed and his running mate Dr. Musthafa Luthfee.

In addition to supporters, local members and senior officials of the party alike were seen walking in unison to celebratory music and celebration along the major streets of the capital.

The rally was concluded around 11:40 p.m. back in Usfasgandu area.

The Elections Commission has approved the candidacy of all four candidates - MDP’s Mohamed Nasheed, President and Leader of the Forward with the Nation coalition Dr. Mohamed Waheed, Progressive Party of Maldives' (PPM) candidate Abdulla Yameen, and Jumhoory Party candidate and local business tycoon Gasim Ibrahim – who have announced their candidacy for the September presidential elections.
