The detention period for the suspect arrested in relation to the murder of Ahmed Nizar, 31, of Woodland, Laamu Gan, has been extended by 15 days.
A police media official told Sun Online that the detention period for the 21-year-old man, arrested on suspicion of murdering Nizar at 2:23 am last Saturday night, was extended by the Laamu Gan Magistrate Court.
He said that no one else has been arrested in relation to this case, and the investigation is ongoing.
Police have revealed that the assault took place in Gan Mukurimagu ward while four people, including Ahmed Nizar, were returning to Gan after travelling by motorcycle to Laamu Kadhdhoo post office, where they had collected a package.
Police said that they suspect the assailants used wooden planks and iron rods to attack. The materials were discovered near the body, police said.
