Following accusations of deception by several foreign travel agencies, Atoll Paradise has been fined MVR 1 million and also had its permit withheld by the Ministry of Tourism.
A senior official of the ministry told Sun Online that Atoll Paradise has been accused of cancelling confirmed reservations and refusing to provide compensation.
“We have received complaints from several foreign travel agents, saying that Atoll Paradise collected large sums of money from them, and cancelled their reservations. We haven’t even completed calculating the final amount,” he said.
He said that the ministry will release the permit of Atoll Paradise once it repays the money it owes to travel agencies.
“After receiving numerous complaints, we have decided to file a case to the police for further investigation. We are still receiving complaints,” he said.
