Government seeks parliament consent for Azima

The president has requested the parliament to make a decision on granting consent for newly-appointed Attorney General, Aishath Azima Shakoor.

Azima previously held the post of Attorney General in President Dr Mohamed Waheed’s government, but was transferred to the post of Minister of Family, Gender and Human Rights upon her request.

Azima was reappointed as Attorney General after the parliament rejected her as the Minister of Family, Gender and Human Rights.

The issue of granting consent for Azima has now been sent to the Parliament Committee on Oversight of the Government, for assessment.

Former Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Dr Amal Ali was appointed as Minister of Family, Gender and Human Rights. The issue of granting consent for Amal has not yet been sent to the parliament.
