Man attacked and killed in Laamu Gan

A group of people have attacked and killed a man who was riding a motorcycle in Gan, Laamu atoll last night.

Police have identified the victim as Ahmed Nizar, 31, Woodland, Thundi, Laamu Gan.

Police said that they were responding to a report around 2:23 a.m. last night when they discovered Nizar’s body on the road. He was promptly taken to Gan Regional Hospital, although he was already dead when he reached the hospital, police said.

They have also revealed that the incident occurred in Laamu Gan Mukurumagu ward after four people, including Ahmed Nizar, had travelled by motorcycle to Laamu Kadhdhoo post office where they had collected a certain package, and were returning back to Gan.

Police said that they suspect the assailants to have used wooden planks and iron rods in the attack. The material were discovered near the body, police said.

They said that a special team from Male’ has departed Laamu Gan to investigate the case. Gan Police Station has already commenced the preliminary investigation, police said.

Police said that initial inspection of Ahmed Nizar’s records show that he does not have a criminal record.
