The police have joined forces with Male’ City Council to conduct a special operation to tackle the problem of traffic congestion in Male’ during Ramadan.
In an interview, SP Asim Abdullah told Police Media that under this operation, the police will tow away vehicles that are parked illegally in areas where there is heavy traffic, such as the Local Market.
In addition, a special team of traffic police will manage and divert traffic in congested areas daily between 13:30 and 18:30 during Ramadan, said SP Asim Abdullah.
The police said that four-wheeled vehicles will not be allowed on some narrow lanes during those hours.
He further said that loading and unloading of goods would not be allowed on Boduthakurufaanu Magu between Faarukendi Hingun and Chaandhanee Magu, and on Haveeree Hingun between Kandi Dhonmaniku Goalhi and Fenfiyaazu Goalhi.
He said that parts of some roads would also be closed for traffic when necessary, during the hours of heaviest congestion.
The police would also manage traffic at Islamic Centre area during Isha and Tharaveeh prayers, said SP Asim Abdullah.
