President of Adhaalath Party Imran Abdullah has said that campaign activities of ‘Forward with the Nation’ coalition are not being conducted as much as they had hoped.
Imran told Sun Online that the party’s main aim is to ensure that former President Mohamed Nasheed does not return to power.
“We don’t see any effective campaign being conducted to ensure this. We have held several discussions because the coalition is not conducting enough campaign activities. Three members of the council wanted to hold a discussion to express their discontent regarding this. So we held a meeting last night and discussed ways to solve this problem. We don’t see any increase in support as not enough efforts have been made since we started the campaign,” he said.
Imran said that they would not sit back and watch the campaign fail and Nasheed return to power.
“We have plenty of options. We received proposals from several groups before, but we chose this path because we want to cooperate as much as we can. If we can’t find a solution through discussion, we will move forward even if it means that we have to leave the coalition,” he said.
He said that the party is prepared to industriously make efforts to campaign for the election.
“After discussions, we will make a decision before the deadline passes for submitting the names of the candidates,” he said.
‘Forward with the Nation’ coalition consists of Adhaalath Party, President Waheed’s Gaumee Itthihad Party (GIP), his Vice Presidential Candidate Ahmed Thasmeen Ali’s Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), and Special Advisor to the President Dr Hassan Saeed’s Gaumee Party.
Imran participated in some visits to the atolls after the coalition announced its vice presidential candidate, but he was not seen at the function held recently to announce the coalition’s youth policy, or the function held last night to announce the education policy.
