Water sports centre in Hulhumale

Water sports items stored in a water sports centre in Hulhumale’ have been completely damaged in a fire incident this morning.

The police media official said that the incident was reported to the police at 06:15 this morning, following which the police arrived at the scene and with the assistance of MNDF and members of the public, successfully extinguished the fire.

He said that no one was hurt in the incident.

Owner of the water sports centre, H2O World, Ali Abdullah said that the incident is likely to have been caused by an electrical malfunction, and by the time he went there, the fire had been put out using the sand from the beach.

He said that items worth $10,000 were damaged in the fire.

“The centre was used to store water sports items such as tubes, life jackets, kite boards, surf boards, and several other things. The only items not destroyed in the fire are about ten life jackets and an outboard engine,” he said.

The water sports centre is located on the ground floor of a three-storey house, and caters to Maldivians who visit Hulhumale’.

The police are currently investigating the cause of this fire.
