The principal and a grade eight student in Gaafu Alif Dhaandhoo School have sustained injuries following a brawl between the two, after the principal decided to suspend the student.
Dhaandhoo Council had earlier said that the principal had sustained injuries to the head, although the police have said that there were no head-injuries and that nobody was seriously hurt during the incident.
Nuima Latheef, person in charge of the Dhaandhoo Health Centre told Sun that both the student and principal had come to the centre seeking treatment. She said that the student had a swelling on his head, likely caused by an impact from a hard object. The principal had hurt his chest and was having breathing difficulties when he was brought into the centre, Niuma said. She confirmed that they did not have any serious injuries.
She said that the principal is still in the health centre, although the student has now been treated and released.
Dhaandhoo School Principal is Hussain Adam, Aamuleege, a local from the island.
Describing the events to Sun, Ramla Mohamed Rasheed, a teacher of Islam at Dhaandhoo School said: “The meeting was held during the last period today. The child was suspended because he had voiced vulgarities at a teacher. The principal suspended him and as he started to leave, the child who got suspended stood there and pushed him. The principal went and hit his head on a pillar right in front. Then we saw the principal pick up an umbrella and move towards the child. Soon, it had turned into a brawl and they were on top of each other.”
