First interim president and one of the founding members of Adhaalath Party, Dr. Abdul Majeed Abdul Baaree has left the party.
Sun has come to know that Adhaalath Party Office received Dr. Majeed’s letter of departure at 10:15 am today. The letter was dated 24th June 2013.
The letter did not detail his reason for leaving the party, but held a rather diminutive phrase stating: “I would like to ask to be removed from the your party’s membership.”
Dr. Majeed is also the president of Adhaalath Party’s scholar’s council. He held the post of Minister of Islamic Affairs, representing Adhaalath Party in the coalition government of the previous administration.
Stating that he would respect the party’s decision, Dr. Majeed resigned as the Minister of Islamic Affairs when Adhaalath Party left Nasheed’s coalition government in 2011. However, he came back to the post later on, which Adhaalath Party described as “demeaning behavior.”
The incident had caused some amount of friction between the Adhaalath Party leadership and the religious scholar.
