People who made payment to SBT lose hope of going for Umra, file case to police

The people who made the payment to SBT Hajj Group to go for Umra have filed a case to the police after they lost all hope of going for Umra this year.

The police media official said that the case filed in this regard is now under investigation.

He said that suspects of this investigation are being summoned for questioning by the police.

A person from Addu City who made the payment said that 15 people from Addu City had paid MVR 35,000 each to SBT, but now had no hope of going for Umra this year.

He said that Head of SBT Abdullah Bagir does not answer his phone anymore, and the 15 people had provided statements to the Hithadhoo Police Station.

“All 15 of us have gone down to the Hithadhoo Police Station and provided our statements for their investigation. We paid MVR 35,000 each to SBT, and we have no hope of going for Umra,” he said.

Head of SBT Abdullah Bagir has urged the people who made the payments to not lose hope of going for Umra.

He said that efforts are ongoing by SBT Group to arrange the trip, and he had explained this when he was summoned by the police as well. He said that discussions are ongoing with airlines to carry people to Mecca.

“We are in discussion with airlines. I have told the police that the efforts are ongoing. They should not lose hope. God willing, they will go for Umra,” he said.

Some people who made the payment to SBT to go for Umra in March 2013 reclaimed their money after they lost hope of going for Umra.
