The National University has opened a new campus in Laamu Gan.
The National University said in a statement today that the ceremony held yesterday to inaugurate the campus in Gan was attended by Laamu atoll council members, Gan island council members, Chancellor of the National University Dr Mohamed Zahir Hussain and Vice Chancellor of the National University Hassan Hameed.
The National University said that the old Mathimaradhoo School building was handed over to the university yesterday, where the university will be operated from temporarily.
Speaking at the ceremony, Gan Council President Hussain Moosa said that the opening of a university campus in Gan is great progress for the island as well as the atoll. He said that efforts were made to commence courses in January this year, but this had not been possible due to some challenges.
He assured that 45 hectares of land will be given to construct a permanent building for the university campus in Gan.
