People would not have to relive the misery of the past three years: Yameen

Presidential Candidate of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Abdullah Yameen has said that the people of the Maldives would not have to relive the ‘misery’ they were put through during the three years of the previous administration.

Speaking in Shaviyani Milandhoo, Yameen said that we should not allow a group of people who put the country’s independence and sovereignty at stake, to return to power.

“We should not allow a group of people who might threaten our independence and sovereignty and sell our assets, to return to power. God willing, the Maldivian people would not have to relive the misery they were put through during those three years,” Yameen said.

Yameen said that we have to facilitate opportunities for our children to stand on their own feet, and also discipline our children such that they grow up to be loyal to their nation.

He said that efforts need to be made towards making the Maldivian society a civilised one.

Speaking at the meeting, Yameen’s Running Mate Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed said that a PPM government would work towards ensuring honorary lives for the elderly. He said that PPM would also work for the rights of women and people with special needs.

The PPM delegation was warmly welcomed by supporters as they arrived in the island this afternoon.

PPM said that this visit to Milandhoo is part of its campaign tour to Shaviyani Atoll.

During the visit, the PPM team met with members of the party in the island.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice President of PPM, Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdullah said, “We are part of the broad coalition to sustain the government until the presidential election this year, because PPM believes that this is what’s best for the people.”
