Police release 10 people arrested in yesterday

Police have released 10 of the 15 people arrested during yesterday's protests in Hulhumale’, staged against the increase in bus fares as the Maldives Transporting and Contracting Company Ltd (MTCC) prepares to introduce larger, air-conditioned buses to their service in capital’s island ward.

Police Media Official told Sun today they still have three men, one woman and a minor under their custody.

Police said that some of them were arrested for breaching police barriers, obstructing police duties and voicing death threats to the police.

Supporters of two major policial parties, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), staged the protests.
