Dr Asim appointed to LGA

Education Minister Dr Asim Ahmed has been appointed to the Local Government Authority (LGA), as the member appointed to LGA by the president from the cabinet.

The President’s Office said that Dr Asim was appointed as per article 62 (a) of the Act on Decentralisation of the Administrative Divisions of the Maldives, which states that a member shall be appointed to the LGA by the president in order to make accountable to the parliament as prescribed in Article 140 of the Constitution.

Dr Asim was appointed to this post following the dismissal of Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed from the post of Minister of Home Affairs.

In addition to the member appointed by the president from the cabinet, the LGA Board is made up of an appointed member from the Male’ City Council, four members elected among the members of the councils from the Atoll Councils of administrative divisions, an appointed member from civil society by the parliament, an appointed member from public by the parliament, and an elected member from the City Councils.
