We will establish an internationally recognised polytechnic in the Maldives: Dr Jameel

Running Mate of the Presidential Candidate of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has said that if PPM comes to power, it would establish an internationally recognised polytechnic in the Maldives, and that this would be done in affiliation with relevant universities around the world.

Speaking at a press conference at the PPM Office today, Dr Jameel said that considering the current employment situation in the Maldives, the establishment of a polytechnic would facilitate the opportunity for people to earn high incomes over a short period of time.

“If PPM comes to power, we would establish an internationally recognised polytechnic in the Maldives. This would be done in affiliation with renowned universities around the world. This has several important benefits. As you would know, considering the current employment market in the Maldives, people can earn good incomes if they can complete courses in a short period of time, for example in areas such as managerial economics, banking, accounting, auditing, tourism and offshore financing,” he said.

Dr Jameel said that in addition to this, PPM would establish several schools with the same type and amount of equipment, and the purpose of this is to ensure that all schools in the Maldives are equal and equipped with the same facilities.

He also assured that PPM would create a social security system at school level for children with special needs, and that the government would establish preschools in every island, of better standard than what exists today.

PPM Presidential Candidate and former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s brother, Abdullah Yameen, also joined today’s press conference.
