Police seize large amounts of alcohol about to be brought into Male

The police have seized large amounts of alcohol about to be brought into Male’ illegally on a dhoni (boat) in the south western harbour, from a safari boat.

The police said that the bottles were found at around 10:40 today during an operation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Department.

The police said that checks conducted on-board the dhoni revealed 85 bottles in their original packing in boxes, including 36 bottles of Black and White Blended Scotch Whiskey, 48 bottles of VAT 69 Blended Scotch Whiskey, and one bottle of Smirnoff.

Checks conducted on the safari boat related to the incident revealed 113 bottles of alcohol and 70 cans of beer.

The police said that three people have been arrested following this incident; a 42-year-old Maldivian, a 23-year-old Maldivian and a 22-year-old foreigner.

The case is currently under police investigation.
