Maldives has called to immediately end violence between the rebel fighters and government authorities in Syria.
Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated today that the Maldives government condemns ongoing widespread and systematic gross violations of human rights in the country and called on Syria to immediately cease all violence.
Maldives also cosponsored a United Nations resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on the 15th of May, expressing grave concerns over the continuing escalation of violence in Syria and condemning ongoing widespread and systematic gross violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms. Maldives voted in favour of the resolution.
Titled “The situation in the Syrian Arab Republic”, the resolution was adopted by a vote of 107 in favour to 12 against, with 59 abstentions.
Over 80,000 Syrians have been killed and 5.5 million have been displaced in the recent violence in Syria.
