Fenaka Corporation has been commissioned to complete the water system project in Addu and Fuvahmulah for MVR 3.4 million.
The agreement in this regard was signed at a ceremony held at Environment Ministry this evening, by Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation Mohamed Nimal and Minister of State for Environment and Energy Abdul Matheen Mohamed.
Speaking at the ceremony, Matheen said that the project was planned to be carried out by UK’s Biwater in collaboration with the Maldivian government.
According to the agreement, the Maldivian government would invest $15 million, while Biwater would invest $27 million in the project.
Matheen said in 2011, Biwater informed the Maldivian government that it was not able to invest the agreed $27 million.
He said that Biwater had contributed some money to the part of the project that was implemented prior to that, and the government had invested $15 million; but since budget was not sufficient, the government now decided to commission the project to Fenaka Corporation for MVR 3.4 million and to ensure that it is completed as soon as possible.
Speaking at the ceremony, Nimal said that Fenaka’s aim is to complete the project as soon as possible, and that they would cooperate with Biwater to procure the items required from the UK for the project.
