Girl injured in road accident in Male

A girl who got injured during a road accident in Male’ last Sunday night has died while being treated in a hospital in Sri Lanka.

Aishath Anwar from Senrey, Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo faced an accident early Monday morning around 12:30 am, sustaining severe injuries to her head. She died in a hospital in Sri Lanka this morning around 6:30 am without regaining consciousness.

Only 23 years of age, Aishath Anwar got married three months ago.

The accident happened while she was riding with her husband on a motor cycle after finishing her shift around 12:00 am Sunday night. They were riding along Buruzu Magu when another motorcycle turned into the road near former Male’ Medical, when both motorcycles had collided, flinging Aishath Anwar to a distance where she hit her head and sustained grievous injuries.

Aishath Anwar’s family said that all parties involved in the accident had suffered numerous injuries, along with damages to the vehicles they were driving. Aishath Anwar however, suffered fatal injuries, causing blood to hemorrhage onto her brain.

The family also said that she was transported to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in a police vehicle and that they were able to arrange for her to be transported to Sri Lanka after 24 hours had passed. They said that the doctors in Sri Lanka had said too much time had lapsed since she suffered her injuries and her reaching the hospital in Sri Lanka. Nonetheless, they performed surgery.

The family noted that the country central hospital IGMH, was unable to provide her with prompt and proper treatment, even though she was accompanied by a doctor and nurse from when she was transported to Sri Lanka.

An accident at the same intersection in Buruzu Magu six years ago had caused a motorcycle to crash into a shop at the intersections, which had left a young man with his throat slashed from the shattered glass from the shop window.

A Majeediyya School student who went into a coma after being hit in the head by a basketball on the 3rd of this month was also transported to Sri Lanka, as IGMH did not have the means to treat him. The boy also died without regaining consciousness.
