MNDF begins rescue efforts for sinking boat near Gaafaru

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coast Guard has commenced rescue efforts for Riveli fishing boat, after it was reported sinking off Gaafaru in Male’ Atoll.

MNDF Media Official Captain Abdullah Ali Waheed said that the incident was reported at around 17:00, and that rescue efforts are under way by a Coast Guard team including divers.

MNDF said that the 45 ft fishing boat carrying five people started sinking when its engine failed due to bad weather. The MNDF official also said that no one was hurt in the incident.
