Freedom and democracy was not introduced as a compromise to the unity of our society: Home Min. Dr. Jameel

Minister of Home Affairs Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has said that freedom and democracy was not introduced as a compromise to the unity we have in our society.

Speaking at a ceremony held to inaugurate new police stations in Thaa Madifushi and Thaa Kinbidhoo last Thursday, Home Minister Jameel said that the people of the islands are in dire need of safety and protection and that they should not have to listen to anything that they do not desire.

He said it is illegal for people to use loud speakers in a way that it might disturb the public.

Speaking at the ceremony, Commission of Police Abdulla Riyaz said that every island needs the services of the police and that he does not believe that there is any greater priority than to establish safety in the society.

He said that establishing safety within the society is part of the responsibilities of the police and that they will strive to ensure that the protection is provided to the best of their resources.
