Velidhoo MP Ali Mohamed joins MDP

Velidhoo MP Ali Mohamed (Alibe) has joined the main opposition, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) today.

The news was confirmed by MDP's parliamentary group leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu).

MP Ali Mohamed sits in parliament as an independent. He initially won the seat through a DRP ticket, and later left the party in 2011. He is also one of the members who Chairs the parliament in the absence of the Speaker

Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said that Ali Mohamed’s registration form was submitted to the Elections Commission for approval today, and that MDP will hold a colourful event to celebrate his signing.

“Alibe is a very capable person. By him joining the party, I hope that it has gained new progress. I sincerely hope that it will be reflected from his constituency as well,” Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said.

Following recent rumours that he had joined MDP, Ali Mohamed had denied that he had joined anyone, but had also remarked that “it will come to light soon.”
