Boy found dead on Maamendhoo beach

A young boy has been found dead on the beach of Laamu Maamendhoo today.

The boy was discovered after his parents had gone out in search of him, soon after he went missing.

Police have since confirmed the death, and stated that they received information of the discovery of the body around 12:20 this afternoon. They said the boy was 1 year 10 months old.

Member of the Maamendhoo Council Moosa Waheed said that the boy was found on the beach around 10:30 this morning, soon after his parents had started searching for him.

He said that they boy was dead already by the time he was taken to the hospital.

Moosa Waheed said that the boy's mother had asked his father to look after him before she left the house to go to a store, and that the parents had realised that the boy was missing after the mother had returned home and asked of the boy's whereabouts.

The boy was an only child, although the couple have children from previous marriages.
