Gemanafushi MP Ilham Ahmed, who was recently elected as the Deputy Leader of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) after a fierce run for the post, has resigned from his post today.
Confirming the news to Sun, PPM’s Secretary General Yumna Maumoon said that the party has received Ilham’s resignation letter. However, the reason for his resignation is not yet clear.
Ilham’s resignation follows reports that the party’s behavioural committee has decided to force out Umar Naseer, the party’s former deputy leader who recently lost on the PPM presidential primary. Ilham had supported Umar Naseer during the primary.
