Deputy Parliamentary Group Leader of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Ali Waheed has said that Parliamentary Group Member of Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), Speaker of Parliament Abdullah Shahid will join MDP, and that DRP and MDP will be merged in the future.
Speaking at an ongoing rally in Addu City, Ali Waheed said that MDP would not form a coalition with any party, but DRP and MDP will be merged.
“We will get Shahid to join MDP. We will merge MDP and DRP,” he said.
Rumours have been spread recently of Shahid and several MPs joining MDP.
Rumours of Shahid joining MDP have not been denied by any group, and Presidential Candidate of MDP, former President Mohamed Nasheed has also made a remark implying that Shahid may join MDP.
Ali Waheed also said that MDP’s Parliamentary Group withdrew the no-confidence motions against two ministers because ‘there is a better way’.
