Dr Jameel will join PPM very soon: Gayoom

President of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has said that Home Minster, Vice President of Gaumee Party Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed’s ideas are similar to the ideologies of PPM, and that Dr Jameel will therefore join PPM soon.

Gayoom said this while speaking to reporters at the official jetty, upon his return from a visit by PPM to Fuvahmulah.

When asked by a reporter if PPM Presidential Candidate Abdullah Yameen might choose Dr Jameel as his Running Mate, Gayoom said that this had not been decided yet. He said that according to the party’s Basic Regulation, the name of the Running Mate will be sent to the Council by the Presidential Candidate, and that the decision must then be passed by the Council.

Gayoom said that work is ongoing to get several people besides Dr Jameel to join PPM, and that it is very likely that several people join PPM soon.

He said that the visit to Fuvahmulah was very successful, and that it was a trip unlike any other made by PPM to Fuvahmulah. He thanked the people of Fuvahmulah for their hospitality.
